Celebrate the 57th Annual Las Posadas and 1st Annual Fiesta Navidad throughout historic Old Town San Diego. Designed for the whole family, this free event is a gift to all San Diegans. Come enjoy a variety of music, museums, tours and revel in the true spirit of the season.

The Fiesta includes:

• Opening night begins with one of the oldest Las Posadas in the United States - Wednesday, December 12, at 6pm in Heritage Park, 2470 Heritage Park Row

• Pastorela concerts in the Adobe Chapel

• Church choirs, bell ringers, mariachis, early Californio and other traditional holiday music

• Breaking of piñatas and visits from Santa Claus

• Holiday specific shopping opportunities, numerous free museum programs, and participating restaurants will highlight traditional holiday dishes

Historic Old Town encompasses State, County and City parks, along with over 100 shops, 34 restaurants and 16 museums

Candlelight Tours

Experience the history of early San Diego with candlelight tours, lantern-lit museums, hundreds of luminarias, holiday entertainment, and festive music.

Horse and carriage rides will be available for a nominal fee. The concession retail stores and restaurants, represented by the Old Town San Diego State Historic Park Merchants Association, will be open for extended shopping hours until 9pm. The historic working Blacksmith shop, San Diego Union Newspaper Printing shop and newly refurbished Seeley Stable museum will also be open to the public for added holiday entertainment. Historical traditions and the romance of early California will be recreated in this historic seasonal festival.

Bring your family and friends and share the festive activities with the colorful townsfolk that created early San Diego. See the beautiful candle dance performed by Los Bailadores Dancers. Beginning at 6pm, candlelit walking tours will be conducted every 30 minutes, where visitors can experience vignettes throughout the park, including historic La Casa de Machado y Silvas and lantern-lit La Casa de Estudillo. Reservation are suggested. Tour prices are $10 for adults, $5 for children between the ages of 6 and 12, and ages 5 and under are free. Proceeds benefit the interpretive and educational efforts of Old Town San Diego State Historic Park, through the generosity and efforts of the Boosters of Old Town non-profit association, and the collaborative efforts of Plaza del Pasado.

Parking and entrance to the park are FREE, and is conveniently located adjacent to the Old Town Transit Center, with Coaster, Trolley, and MTS Bus service.

Activities within Old Town San Diego State Historic Park are a part of Fiesta Navidad, an annual seasonal community celebration, presented by the Historic Old Town Community Foundation, that shares the spirit and traditions that are unique to Old Town. Candlelight Tours

Activity:  Volunteers, in period attire, will interpret the History and Technology, of this vital 19th century form of Communication.

Blackhawk Livery

Activity: Meet our local blacksmith as he interprets his trade to the public.  Join Californios gathered around a campfire listening to period music.

Historic Merchants Open House

Celebrate Chanukah and the heritage of the Jewish settlers during the holiday season. Their traditions, food, and music are part of the diverse heritage of Old Town. Activities include traditional song and dance, children's activities and dreidel game, magic show, as well as food and beverages available. Begins at 6:00pm at the Robinson-Rose Visitor Center. Las Posadas

Sponsored by the Save our Heritage Organisation and the Old Town Community, the live procession of Las Posadas tells the Christmas story of centuries ago. This year's event marks the 52st year of this celebration filled with tradition and song. The celebration represents the pilgrimage of Mary and Joseph to Bethlehem seek shelter, complete with donkey. The public is invited to be part of the procession and to join with the choir in singing traditional Mexican and American songs. Luminarias light the way beginning at Heritage Park and continuing through Old Town into the State Park Plaza. The event culminates in celebration and the breaking of a piñata.
